⚙️ How It Works
The simulation uses three main components:
- Location Input & Map: Uses Leaflet.js and OpenStreetMap/OpenTopoMap for interactive 2D mapping. Users define their area of interest by searching, using GPS, or clicking the map.
- Rainfall Data: Fetched from the Open-Meteo API, providing historical (5 days) and forecast (5 days) precipitation data for the selected coordinates.
- Flood Simulation: This step is simplified for the PoC. We calculate a Flood Risk Percentage based on the total daily rainfall (e.g., 120mm = 100% risk). This risk level determines the opacity and color of a dynamic GeoJSON polygon placed within a 1km radius of the input location. This polygon simulates a low-lying, flood-prone area, conceptually representing a calculation that a dedicated GIS tool (like Global Mapper) would perform using detailed elevation data.
The visualization on the map is not based on real-time elevation analysis it is a visual risk indicator confined to a simulated low-lying area near your coordinates.
